Reliefband EL, Replaceable Batteries, Non-Rx Relief for Nausea and Motion Sickness

by Barbara 26. November 2013 10:39

Question regarding using the ReliefBand EL Motion Sickness Device for nausea from vertigo.

Q: "Recently, I began having attacks of vertigo. Some are mild, some are not. Along with that, I feel nausea, almost like mild morning sickness. Can the ReliefBand help?" Thanks. Fran

Answer: Nausea is nausea no matter what the cause. My employees and I have successfully used Reliefbands for nausea from flu, from migraines and also from vertigo. Recently, I've had to deal with those symptoms myself. According to internet sites, the symptoms of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) usually last only a few seconds to a few minutes and are intermittent (i.e., come and go). Rolling over in bed, getting out of bed, swinging on a swing, etc. can also cause symptoms of light headedness and imbalance as well as nausea. Unfortunately, BPPV is more common as we grow older. according to the American Academy of Neurology, the most effective treatment for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) caused by ear crystals in the posterior semicircular canal, are treatments where the patient moves head and body in certain positions. The idea is to move the calcium crystals into another inner ear canal where the body can absorb them. In the meantime, your physical therapist or physician might direct you to a non-prescription OTC like Bonine or a prescription medication.

The advantage of the Reliefband is that nausea generally subsides or diminishes in a few minutes to 20 minutes. The Relief Band works for almost every one. NOTE: Warranties: Limited to replacement of mechanically defective units within the warranty period of 30 days after purchase. ReliefBands® are not guaranteed to be effective in every case for nausea relief. Effectiveness varies with each user's characteristics. Once shipped, ReliefBands® are NOT returnable for refund: this is due to both mechanical and hygienic reason. If the unit is deemed defective by the manufacturer, the unit will be replaced.

The Reliefband EL has about 120 hours of useful time. Then change two CR2025 batteries! The electrodes look like two half clam shells. Just turn it on and off as needed. Note: hours of useful time are based upon use at levels 2 and 3. To use, apply a small circle of conductive gel on the underside of your left or right wrist. Place the Reliefband electrodes on that spot. Tighten the adjustable band (does contain latex) until snug. Turn the unit on by pressing the button in the middle. Most people set it at level 2 or 3. If you are very nauseous, begin with level 4 or level 5. When you feel relief, push the center button until you get to 2 or 3. Turn unit off when not needed: saves the battery.

FDA-cleared, the wrist-worn relief device is effective for almost everyone. For most people the EL is an insurance policy of sorts: much less expensive than a fine meal with wine or one day of cruising. The EL has replaceable batteries.  For about one dollar per hour of therapy, you get relief without the side effects of medications. And there are no dietary or drinking restrictions.

The motion sickness ReliefBand® is an over-the-counter nerve stimulation device that emits gentle electrical pulses you barely notice after a few minutes.  It is not painful:  Tingling sensations flow from your wrist and into your fingers depending upon how you hold your hand. The mild electrical impulses gently stimulate the median nerve on the underside of the wrist, working with the body's natural neural system to prevent and control motion sickness. Resembles a watch with 5 different stimulation strengths. Worn on the underside of the wrist on either hand, the Relief Band is more effective than passive pressure bands for nausea.

For long term use, we recommend buying the Reliefband Bundle which includes one tube of extra gel and two extra batteries. This patented electronic medical device's effectiveness is supported by clinically proven studies. Pressure bands with knobs on the bottom apply passive pressure to an area for which the body soon accommodates for the pressure and ignores the stimulation. The variable pulsing electronic stimulation of the ReliefBand® means the body is not allowed to accommodate. Also the mild buzzing sensation in the palm and middle fingers lets you know the correct nerve is being stimulated.

Many people buy a spare tube just in case the primary one is lost. Remember the Reliefband if you get sea sick, car sick or air sick, too. It is FDA cleared for children 12 and above. There is neither indication or contraindication from the FDA as to use of the ReliefBand® by children.

Reliefband EL units are now in stock. Thank you for your question. Good luck.

Christmas Gift Suggestions and Special Gifts for Bird Lovers and Bird Watchers

by Barbara 12. November 2013 11:43

Question about holiday gifts for bird lovers.

Q:"Please suggest holiday gift ideas for bird lovers. My in-laws enjoy watching and feeding birds. Thanks. Marianne."

Answer: Your question is certainly wide open for suggestions.

Here are some of the most popular of our birding product gifts for those who want to attract birds to their backyards.

Bird Feeders Come in essentially three types: Seed, Suet and Nectar. They can be hung from trees, deck hangers, feeding station poles or attached to windows with suction cups. To choose the best ones for your loved ones, look on line to see which birds are typically found in their geographical areas. Note what the birds prefer to eat and then choose from the Safe Home Products' large selection.

Bird Mugs, Dishes and Glasses and Bird Magnets are great choices for those unable to feed birds and for those who enjoy the colorful choices. Consider their favorite birds or the color scheme in their kitchens and browse through our offerings such as:

For new bird watchers, I suggest "Bird, Birds, Birds" a DVD guide to recognize birds and bird songs and the Audubon Backyard Birdwatcher. For bird tips, try this DVD, Mel's Backyard Birding Tips, an inexpensive introduction to birds.

Choose from dried meal worms(they won't crawl out of your feeders) and squirrel baffles, to keep the bird food from being poached by squirrels.

Thanks again for your questions. Feel free to contact us if you have questions or need more help.

Sincerely,
Barbara

Choosing Wind Chimes to Set A Mood, To Accent an Area or to Remain Friends With Your Neighbor

by Barbara 11. November 2013 10:36

Question about buying and hanging wind chimes.

Q: "I'm looking to purchase several wind chimes for my screened porch. How do I know what to purchase? Thanks. Suzanne."

Answer: There are many questions to consider when choosing wind chimes and their placement. Often sounds that please your ear may be abrasive to some else.

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  1. How much are you going to invest in your chime or chimes? Some chimes are quite inexpensive. For example, the Cohasset Sail Boat Bamboo Wind Chime. Others like the Music of the Spheres Westminster Wind Chime can cost more than $100.
  2. How many do you plan to buy? If you plan to hang more than one in an area, please choose units that work well together. Ex. The Music of the Spheres wind chimes come in soprano, alto, bass, etc. They are tuned to the same scale just in different octaves.
  3. What is your purpose? i.e to set a mood, to accent an area, etc.
  4. Where are the locations you are considering? Chimes range in length from about 26 inches to 90 inches. Are you going to place these outside or inside? Inside means near a screened window or screen door through which wind can flow. Perhaps you'll have to have a fan nearby to jostle the chimes. Typically how windy is it outside your home or building? How close are your neighbors? (long bass wind chimes can be quite loud).
  5. What components are in the chimes you are considering? Components change the sounds, from soothing to rather abrasive, from tuned to not tuned. Also the distance the sound travels

Then take a look at the options:

  • Glass wind chimes have a higher pitch, are not tuned, add color. Glass chime sounds do not carry as far as metal chimes.
  • Metal wind chimes are aluminum like the Amazing Grace Chime, copper like the Woostock Copper Wind Bell or steel. Often you can add additional chimes to provide harmony. Ex. Music of the Spheres has chimes ranging from soprano through bass. The pitch is usually the same and sound not only carries but lasts longer.
  • Bamboo wind chimes provide soothing sounds, hollow, deep and resonant. They are less durable than metal. Splits in the bamboo have little effect on the sounds

Choosing the number of tubes:

  • More tubes means more notes, more combinations of sounds and different harmonies.
  • Fewer tubes results in a smaller range of sounds, well-tuned ones

Choosing Chime Finish:

  • Painted
  • Natural Metal Finish
  • Natural

Choosing Chime Length:

  • Overall wind chime length determines both tones and sound depth.  the tone and depth of the sound. Longer chimes result in lower, fuller tones: shorter, higher pitched tones.

Looking at the wind chime sail size:

  • This is the piece that catches the breeze. If it is too large and heavy, the sound may be decreased. Choose a wind chime that will not need gale force winds to chime. Usually a gentle breeze of 8 to 10 mph activates a chime. A very heavy sail can "beat up" the wind chime,

Just go to SafeHomeProducts.com and enter wind chimes in the search box to browse through our very large selection of wind chimes.

Thanks for your questions.

Barbara

Toilet Guardian Keeps Toilet Bowl Water From Overflowing Onto Your Floors

by Barbara 6. November 2013 10:44

Question about best way to keep toilets from overflowing.

Q: "I operate a day care center. The older children toilet themselves; the younger ones have supervision. We have problems with children using too much toilet paper. Then the toilet bowls overflow and there is a mess. What device or devices can we install to prevent these bowl overflows? Thanks. Sara

Answer: The Toilet Guardian TB1000B should save your toilets from overflows. Peace of mind at under $100, no plumber required if you are handy. (The plumber's fee is about the same as the unit in most areas.)

The Toilet Guardian includes a bowl sensor and a controller for an internal valve. When the sensor detects an impending toilet overflow, the sensor signals the controller and the internal valve is closed. This is a great addition to public restrooms, day care centers like yours, private homes, etc..

Battery operated (One CR-2477F Coin Battery), this automatic water shut off valve for the toilet water valve installs easily. Just attach to your existing fill valve at the water connection under the tank. When a potential water problem is detected, you hear the alarm and the water is shut off.

This patented design uses superior Texas Instrument MSP430 technology, replaceable battery (five year life), ceramic disk valve and high impact and chemical resistant materials. Each unit undergoes over 15 function, design and manufacturing tests before shipping.

Toilet Guardian Features Include:

  • No plumber required: easily installed.
  • Twin ceramic disk valves
  • TI MSP430 microprocessor
  • Stainless steel solenoid tested to over 500,000 cycles
  • 3V lithium ion battery w/5 yr. life (replaceable), CR2477F battery
  • Small, light weight, highly impact resistant plastic
  • Size: approximately 3 inches tall by 2 inches wide
  • 0 to 125 psi operating pressure
  • LCD icon display identifies the problem
  • Piezo buzzer for audible alert
  • Two Year Manufacturer's Warranty Against Defects

While you are at it, you should consider installing a Floodstop for your hot water heaters or at the very least a Water Screamer water alarm with 130dB alarm. Water heaters often are in isolated areas. No one knows there is a problem until the water leaks cause damage.

Thanks for your question. Please contact us for more information.

Sincerely,

Barbara

Temperature Guard Remote Monitors for Temperature, Humidity & Power Now Need No Land Lines!

by Barbara 5. November 2013 12:25

Q: "I need to know if power fails or the temperature or humidity changes in my home in Connecticut in the winter or in our motor home when we travel in the summer. We winter in Florida and take our animals with us. I live in a safe neighborhood so I am not worried about break-ins. What do you suggest?" Thanks. Calvin

Answer: I suggest you purchase the new CM712 TemperatureGuard Self-Contained Remote Monitor. Microtechnologies introduced the CM712 in late summer 2013. This replaces the VM-500-3 and VM-500-3HT units that required a land line. This is an easily set up unit suitable for computer rooms, homes, motorhomes, boats and more. You may choose to purchase two units, one for your permanent home and one for your on-the-go home. For example, if the 120VAC power in your motor home park fails or your air conditioner stops cooling, you'll know if you are shopping, etc.

The initial cost is about $600. Remember you won't have to pay for a land line. You will need a SIM card, available on a monthly basis from Microtechnologies.com, the manufacturer. Or you can get one from ATT, etc.  Alerts go via the cell network. The three sensors for temperature, power and humidity are built in. If you want you can add a dry contact door sensor. In an RV park, you probably won't need that. The "tweets" are sent right to your cell phone or computer. An internal battery back-up means alerts continue if power fails.

Text Message Alarm Notices Include:

Temperature or humidity goes out of limits

  • A door is opened  (if you have that sensor installed)
  • Water is detected. (if you have that sensor installed)
  • When the alarm condition is corrected.
  • If an alarm condition is not corrected.
  • Power outage
  • Low internal or external battery.

Dual power operation:

120vac with its included wall mount power supply.
12vdc source for use in cars, trucks, campers, boats. Requires 12 Adapter Not Included.

SIM Plan Details:

A SIM card plan is required for the CM712 to connect to the cell network. Two options are: purchase a T-Mobile SIM card through TemperatureGuard.com (Curent cost in 2013 $150 per year or $12.50 per month with an automatic renewal). Or purchase a SIM from AT&T™ or from any GSM cell service provider worldwide. No SIM card is included with the TemperatureGuard unit.

CM712 Features:

  • Quad-band EGSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
  • Works on the AT&T™and T-Mobile™ cell networks.
  • Program up to four cell phone numbers to send alarm text messages to.
  • Program an ID text so if you have more than one CM712 you'll know which one is in alarm.
  • Programmable high and low temperature limits for each sensor
  • Programmable alarm time delay for each sensor.
  • Handy reminder feature will send additional text messages if an alarm condition continues.
  • Internal rechargeable battery backup. Approximately 6 hours.
  • Ability to connect external battery for even longer life when power is out
  • Wall mount enclosure.

Specifications:

One internal temperature sensor

Measuring range -4°F to 154°F

750 Watt ECO-SAVE Ceramic Electric Heaters Allow Efficent Small Area Heating Due to Compact Size

by Barbara 4. November 2013 14:07

Question about the ECO-Save Ceramic Electric Heaters.

Q: "What makes this electric space heater better than a Cozy Legs panel for an office area?"Thanks. Sara

Answer: The Cozy Legs is great for under desk heating. It is, however, a radiant heating panel. So there is no fan. Also for best use, you need a stand. So moving it is somewhat awkward.

The ECO-Save Portable Electric Heater Features Include:

  • Energy Saving
  • Low wattage
  • Reduced fire risk
  • Keeps you warm for less $$
  • Safety tip-over shut off protection
  • Variable speed fan
  • Adjustable thermostat
  • Ceramic Heating Element
  • Voltage: 120V 60Hz
  • Power: 750W
  • Weight: 4.63lbs
  • Dimensions: 8.86"x8.86"x12.4", 11” H x 7.5” Diameter
  • ETL Listed.
  • Warranty: 6 months by manufacturer
Another advantage is that you can use two of these in the same area as a single 1500 Watt heater and get better heating coverage.

Thanks for your question. Please contact us if you are interested in a quantity purchase.

Barbara

When Must New AmCells Load Cells Be Calibrated? And By Whom?

by Barbara 4. November 2013 09:12

Question about load cells and calibration.

Q: "I need to replace load cells in an existing scale. Do they need calibration? When do new load cells need to be calibrated?" Thanks. Steve

Answer: Here are some examples of when and who calibrates load cells. The timing of the calibration depends upon the application.

  • 1. Have load cells calibrated at AmCells for use with a newly purchased AmCells DIN3 Digital Weighing Indicator or for new applications. Cost is dependent upon the type and quantities purchased.
  • 2. Have a local scale repair person re-calibrate your scale if you are replacing an existing load cell.
  • 3. For an application like a batch filling machine, the factory where the machine is located needs to re-calibrate the machine after the load cells are replaced.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your question.

Feel free to contact us if you need more help. We'd need to know the specifics of your application and the load cells you are replacing.

Sincerely, Barbara
