On-line reviews are quite positive. Our sales reflect these positive reviews. We recommend that your sister check with her physician. If her physician agrees, then definitely buy some for her. Chemo and radiation for cancer extend over weeks so we recommend you purchase a case of twelve 16 oz. bottles.  We also sell Case of 8 ounce bottles and single bottles in the 12 oz. size. Perhaps you can split it with other patients being treated if you do not need all of it.

Thanks you for your question and we wish your sister the best.

Sincerely, Barbara

How do I apply Orthogel to the middle of my sore back where I cannot reach?

by Barbara 10. February 2010 10:55

Question about the Orthogel Spray

Q: "How do I apply Orthogel pain gel to the middle of my sore back where I cannot reach? I love the gel but my arms are not long enough." Thanks. Steve.

Answer: The Orthogel Spray was discontinued. It did not have the strength of the Orthogel roll-on . I suggest you find a friend to assist or use the roll on using a "gripper" tool. Thanks for your question.

How does Orthogel Cold Therapy Pain Relief Gel Work for Muscle and Arthritis Pain?

by Barbara 18. November 2008 04:58

Question about how Orthogel (topical analgesic) works for pain relief.

Q: "I am curious about how or why Orthogel works. I don't like to be taking aspirin or ibuprofen for every muscle ache or back pain. And those pain relievers take a long time to work. I've read your descriptions and need more information. Have you used it yourself?" Thanks. Phyllis

Answer: Orthogel is an FDA approved over the counter non steroidal product that is comparable to BioFreeze sold by many chiropractors. Orthogel is known as a counter irritant. The combination of the menthol and the camphor acts to stimulate nerve endings on the skin to cause a cold sensation. The ilex enhances this effect. The manufacturer recommends use twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. The coolness comes in 5 to 15 minutes for most people.

Orthogel comes in a roll-on, a jar, pumps, tubes and bottles. I recommend caution that you keep fingers away from eyes after massaging or applying the gel as the menthol will sting your eyes. (I wipe my hands on a dry towel and then wash my hands thoroughly with soap and water after applying it.)

Other similar products include Bengay and Biofreeze. I've used both. Bengay was strong in odor and greasy. Biofreeze sales appear limited to chiropractor offices, at least here in Iowa. I found that BioFreeze was more expensive, more intense in odor, "stickier" in texture and sold only in a roll-on. The Orthogel odor is low and diminishes quickly. The texture of the gel is smoother than BioFreeze and the light green color does not stain clothing.

I discovered Orthogel several years ago in a local store when I was out of Biofreeze and had a persistent back and neck aches morning and night. Currently, I use it 2 to 12 times a week mostly on my arthritic ankle but sometimes on my back or across my neck and shoulders. The coolness starts in about 5 minutes for me and the pain vanishes for 4 to 6 hours or more. My belief is that part of the pain issue is that I tense up my muscles when the pain starts and with the Orthogel coolness, I relax them.

My older brother uses Orthogel to cope with his chronic back pain from arthritis and a car accident. When I was home last, I noticed he massaged my mom's shoulders and upper back to relieve her pain as well. Sports trainers, physical therapists and massage therapists often use Orthogel in their practices.

Safe Home Products sells Orthogel in sizes ranging from 3 ounces to a gallon. Orthogel also has Vitamin E, Glucosamine and Aloe to help combat dryness.

Thanks for your question. I believe you'll find Orthogel as helpful as I do to relieve your pain. For more product information, go to the manual on any of our Orthogel webpages.

Where Can You Use a Neck Support Cushion?

by Barbara 9. July 2007 08:40

Q: "Will the CA-232 Auto Neck Support Cushion with Headrest Strap work on an office chair?"

Answer: You can use this neck cushion with any chair just by placing it behind your head. However, it works best when you use the support strap to keep it in place.
Customer Response: "Thank you for your very prompt reply. Now I shall go ahead and order the item."

Note: Since this was answered, we've added a memory foam neck support pillow covered in navy or tan velour with a two piece velcro connected adjustable headrest strap. This is great for those with neck problems who cannot fit their orthopedic pillow into their suitcase. Use this under your neck for support while you travel. The cushion our customer refers to is a white fleece polyester filled neck pillow. I personally travel with the tan memory foam cushion and a brightly colored pillow case. I used the neck support pillow directly under my neck when I sleep with my head resting on whatever thin (usually) pillow the cruise ship or motel provides me. The pillow also pads my C-PAP machine in my carry on bag

Thanks for the question.
