Q: "Can I use the Relief Band for nausea from pregnancy morning sickness? I understand that a unit called the ReliefBand OB used to be sold for that purpose. Thanks, Debbie."

Answer: "At this time, the only Relief Band that is sold over the counter is the one that is FDA cleared for motion sickness. Until Relief Band manufacture was halted for about a year (until Neurowave Medical purchased manufacturing rights, etc.), Safe Home Products sold both the Reliefband Explorer and the Reliefband OB. Both were FDA cleared, one for motion sickness and the other for morning sickness nausea. When production resumed, only the Reliefband Explorer was FDA cleared and manufactured.

The ReliefBand OB had explicit instructions such as to check with your physician if nausea was moderate to severe. Unfortunately, the OB unit is not currently available over the counter. The prescription ReliefBand unit is now available. We understand that unit is one notch stronger in nerve stimulation.

Although Safe Home Products is permitted to sell the Relief Band Explorer for motion sickness nausea, we are not allowed to advertise nor sell this unit for pregnancy morning sickness use. Please contact your physician to discuss your morning sickness symptoms and whether using a prescription ReliefBand is advisable.

Gas Alarms to Monitor Land Fill Methane Gas

Question about the product Safety Siren Pro Series Combustible Gas Alarm

Q: "I work for a disposal company with a maintenance building located on an old landfill. Recently, an employee complained about a gas odor. We had a professional inspector come in who reported a small amount of methane gas was leaking into that building. We need 6 gas monitors for that building. Is the Family Safety Gas Monitor the best choice? We've check with local authorities and there is no code that specifies we must install commercial monitors. " - Dave

Answer: The Family Safety Products gas monitor meets all the UL1484 standards and would meet your needs if you have an electrician install electrical outlets in each room that are within 6 inches of the ceiling. That is because methane is lighter than air and tends to puddle above a leak. Most standard electrical outlets are about 18 inches from the floor so this unit would not detect gas if installed that low. One advantage of this unit is that it has a tamper proof feature, a hole through which you can put the outlet cover screw and keep the unit installed.

If you do not want to install the electrical outlets, then I recommend that you purchase 6 of the Safe-T-Alert 40-411AC gas alarms and install them. These units feature a 65 inch cord so you can mount them nearer to the ceiling without installing new electrical outlets. Since this is a maintenance building, you may already have outlets higher than 18 inches from the floor. Or you can use an extension cord.

Sensaphone Magnetic Reed Switch Monitors Doors and Windows

Q: "I own several convenience stores that accept delivery at the rear of the store. I want to install these switches on the rear doors and on the front doors into each store so that my clerks know when the doors are opened. Is this switch normally closed? Or normally open? Does the magnet hold it open? Thanks, Basil"

Answer: Yes, this switch will meet your needs for monitoring doors. In combination with a Sensaphone system, you'd have all the monitoring capabilities you'd even need without paying for an alarm monitoring service.

My Sensaphone sales rep sent me this response. "The magnetic reed switch monitors the opening and closing of doors. So, this sensor can be configured as normally open or normally closed dependent upon whether the customer wants to monitor the door opening or closing."

From the spec sheet, I also gleaned the following.
Description: The magnetic reed switch may be used with all Sensaphone models to detect any unauthorized entry or intrusion. They are usually installed on doors and windows to detect their opening and closing. Several magnetic reed switches may be
wired in series.

Q: "Does The Steam Inhaler Only Use Water As Its Source Of Steam Or Does Some Sort Of Medication Come With It?-Edward."

Answer: No medication comes with the steam vaporizer which does use water as its source of steam. Taking a long steamy shower can have a similar benefit but is time consuming and uses a lot more water. Using the Mabis unit means you can relieve nasal and sinus congestion whenever you need it without using drugs or having to take time away from work or home tasks to shower. Plus you can control the droplet size and the amount of steam.

There is an aromatherapy tank where you may add eucalyptus, lavender or your favorite scent. For aromatherapy, the steam inhaler unit does not have to be inhaled as the steam will disperse the scent into the room over the 6 to 9 minute steam time.

This unit does not have a "dish" or depression at the top where you might put Vicks or a similar substance.

As in any "vaporizer" or "steamer", using distilled water is the best choice to avoid clogging or mineral deposits.

BirdProof Gel or Bird-XPeller Pro 2 for Black Birds?

Q: "If we put this on the balcony railing, will it be visible on the black wrought iron? When you say transparent, does that mean you cannot see it at all? Will it damage the paint. There are also porous stucco waist-high columns that the birds roost on. What do you suggest we do for that?"

Answer: The Bird Proof Gel is sticky, kind of like a Vaseline type substance. So it won't be “completely invisible”. If your balcony railings are at a height where people might lean on them or touch them, you don't want to use bird gel.

I recommend that you install a Bird Xpeller Pro 2 , that scares off blackbirds and similar birds. You can put it on a timer setting and adjust the volume so it is not obnoxious. A complimentary option that I recommend is to purchase Irritape . These streamers rattle in the wind and dazzle in the sunlight, both of which keep birds away. Since the stucco columns are waist high, installing bird spikes is not an option.

Will a Bird-X Critter Blaster Get Rid of Backyard Rabbits?

Q: "Hello, I am very interested in purchasing your Bird X Critter Pro. However, I am concerned whether or not this will get rid of the rabbits in the neighborhood that congregate in my yard at night and chew bare spots into my lawn. I know that the ad for this product claims this works against birds and other unwanted animals, but I am specifically interested in rabbit deterence. If this does work for rabbits, can you tell me which sounds to program this unit with to ward off rabbits? Thanks for your time. Wes"

Answer: We double checked with the Bird-X experts. Their response confirmed that this is not meant for animals that hop and are low to the ground like rabbits. The best choices for rabbits are Rabbit Scram, Deer-Rabbit Repellent, the Yardgard or the Animal Away Pro units.

Applying a wide perimeter barrier of the Rabbit Scram or Deer-Rabbit Scram plus using one of the ultrasonic animal repeller devices would give you the most effectiveness. Certainly the most permanent choice is a low fence lined with green chicken wire buried a few inches into the inside of the fence.
