How do 5.86Hz & Dect 6.0 telephones differ?

Question about the product GE29115GE1 GE Amplified Cordless Phone Dect 6.0 with Answer Machine

Q:"Please explain the difference beween 5.86 Hz and Dect 6.0. I need clarity and the ability to raise volume. Also, we live in a mountainous area. Which phone is best?"

Answer: The following information we received from our distributor and from internet websites.

5.8 GHz phones offer great clarity and range. The biggest advantage to a 5.8 GHz phone is that its frequency band is less congested than the 2.4 GHz band, resulting in less interference."

DECT 6.0 telephones are a newer technology. DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications. . ETSI stands for the European Telecommunications Standards Institute who developed the DECT systems. The DECT channels are reserved exclusively for voice communication applications. European DECT phones use different frequencies.

DECT 6.0 distinguishes these telephones from both DECT devices used elsewhere and U.S. cordless equipment operating in the 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz ISM bands. The "6.0" is a version number (as in software), not a spectrum band; the term "6.0 GHz" for DECT 6.0 phones is incorrect, since it operates at 1.9 GHz.

The 29111GE1 phone is hearing aid compatible, can expand to up to 4 handsets and has a call volume up to 40dB. Included is an amplified ringer, speaker phone and much more. All the handsets use a single phone line socket. DECT 6.0 phones generally has interference-free wireless operation to around 100 metres outdoors. And they generally are immune to interference from Wi-Fi networks or video senders, Bluetooth technology, baby monitors and other wireless devices.

If you need an answering machine with your phone, the GE 29115GE1 cordless phone with answering machine is a great product. For additional handsets, choose the GE 29110AE1 handsets with recharger base.

For your needs, the DECT 6.0 appears to be the better choice due to the volume control and the range. Thank you for your question.

Sincerely, Barbara
